Day 6

Unfurrow Your Brow

(Unreleased Acoustic Demo)

Welcome to the final day of the Rambler Experience! I’m so happy you stuck with it all the way to the end. As a special gift to you I’d like to share a demo of one of the new songs I’ve been working on. I haven’t taken this to the studio yet, so I only have an acoustic version to share with you, but I think that fits this song perfectly.

One more thing: this is the first time I’m sharing this full song with ANYONE so be sure to reply to the email I sent and let me know what you think!

You’d say “Darlin’, unfurrow your brow,

There’s good in the world even though it’s been hiding.”

But I’m still in pieces, held together with booze and those blue spirits I kept on trying to hide from you

Could’ve seen the storm coming,

the clouds were towering over us dark tall and angry

but we turned away for awhile,

and it was on us before we were ready

I loved you like, ohh

I loved you like, ohh

I still sit at our table sometimes

and watch as the deer eat the garden you planted

And I’m sitting here torn because you’d want them gone,

But I can’t stand the thought of being left alone again.

I loved you like, ohh

I loved you like, ohh

I loved you like, ohh

I loved you like, ohh

Lyrics

Behind the Lyrics

My grandfather is 93 years old. He was married to my grandmother for over 60 years. She left us 7 years ago. Since then I’ve watched him live out his days alone in a house that used to be full. We do what we can to help, but at the end of the day he’s still left in that big empty house with nothing but his thoughts. Sometimes he calls when he sees deer in the backyard. One of those calls inspired verse 2 of this Unfurrow Your Brow. I wrote it quickly in my notes and wrote the rest of the song as soon as I got back home with my guitar.
