Welcome back!
Let’s get Day 2 Started…
Something about floating down the river to explore new places has a very Americana allure to it. It’s easy to romanticize a life on the road - going from place to place and never looking back. There’s a big problem with drifting along in the water though… the current only goes one direction. Sometimes you can’t go back upstream.
Thats what we’ll be exploring today.
Scroll down to dive into River Song…
Stumbled homeward again,
Keep to the path straight ahead,
But in this town, I swear I see you,
Don’t let me leave you again
Will I see you at the river?
We belong on the run,
By the sunrise we’ll be long, long gone
‘Til the banks run wild,
And the whiskey is dry
We could stay here awhile in a dream.
But I wake with a cold winter ache
in my bones.
Take me on home
Will I see you at the river?
We belong on the run,
By the sunrise we’ll be long, long gone.
Hang your legs into the water,
Dig your toes into the sand,
Lay your head against my skin.
In your eyes I see a somber song,
Sing it to the wind,
We could leave into the wind.

Behind the Lyrics
River Song is the first song on this EP that I wrote. At the time I was playing keyboard in a jam band and was messing around with writing a folk song as a songwriting exercise. I had been listening to a lot of great indie-folk bands and wanted to try my hand at writing in a new genre. I think approaching it that way ended up adding a cool feel to the finished song. It made River Song feel more loose, and organic because I wasn’t obsessing over every little word. I was just having fun writing something different. I never would have guessed it would lead to me quitting the band I had been playing with to focus on writing folk music, but here we are!
River song is about nostalgia, and getting lost inside of old memories. I hope you enjoy!
River Song Live
We’ve made it to the end of Day 2, tomorrow we’ll be exploring a love song… kinda. (you’ll understand why its only “kinda” a love song tomorrow)
I’ll see you then!
