• Look around you, love,

We ain’t dead in the water,

But this tide going out feels like your luck is drifting away

    Through your window,

    There’s a streetlight glowin’,

You hope your rearview will show you that streetlight just blinking away

Find you staring, stuck inside your head

    Leaping from great heights,

So high that you might never come down,

Feel the wind all around you keeping your head in the clouds,

These neon lights across the hillsides,

They’re glowing hot pink and yellow,

I can see their color in your eyes

Find you staring, stuck inside your head

    Leaping from great heights,

So high that you might never come down,

Feel the wind all around you keeping your head in the clouds,

  • This is 'Hillsides,' the last song on 'Wander,' and for me, it's about that intense feeling of knowing you could be so much more. It starts with that common feeling of being stuck, of just hoping things will change. You look out your window at the 'streetlight glowing,' wishing you could drive away from that dull, everyday view.

Then comes the chorus: "Find you staring, stuck inside your head / Leaping from great heights, / So high that you might never come down, / Feel the wind all around you keeping your head in the clouds." This is the pure exhilaration of the daydream. It’s the vision, the rush of seeing everything you could be, all those vibrant possibilities playing out in your mind. It’s intoxicating, that feeling of limitless potential, soaring high in your thoughts.

Verse 2 is trying to explore how you can see where you want to be, but don’t quite know how to get there. Those 'neon lights across the hillsides, It's the point where you realize that the daydream itself is beautiful, but it's worthless if you don't act on it. It's a beautiful, vivid picture in your mind, but it stays just a picture unless you actually start climbing those hills, moving toward that glow.

'Hillsides' is about reaching that point where the daydream becomes so powerful, so vivid, that it finally pushes you forward. It's about choosing to step out of just thinking and into doing. It’s about leaning into that feeling of wanting more, of actually taking the leap, and and moving beyond the daydream.

Thanks so much for being a part of the Wander Experience! I truly enjoyed creating it for you and am excited to share even more soon!
